About Love
(What it’s about)

I discovered what love is all about the other day. This social construct, refined through centuries of human civilization and surrounded by myths and taboos, idealized, demonized, attributed to G/god or to body fluid imbalance, hormons or mormons — but what it’s really about…
Try to put your arms gently around the one you love, with bare arms (like the cavemen early in our evolution must have had), and rest your wrists against the naked skin of your partner — already warm under the mammoth fur or the blanket — and tell me if that isn’t what it’s all about — all these years of evolution and poetry: to get your wrists warmed.

  1. And all the times through history women have said: “Get your hands off me, you dirty old pig”…it was all about love, wasn’t it!? Imagine that.

  2. The definition of love. Hmmm, well
it depends on where you are when you are
looking for it….Dylan always wrote about
in places where you’d never expect it to
be (“warehouse eyes”, for one)…for me,
its the place where your soul doesn’t
have anything to hide behind and where
    your soul doesn’t cast a shadow…that
must be it, a place without shadows.

  3. John also said love was a whole list of other things. I understand both points of view. Love is complex and full of all kinds of things put together, but it is also simple and rudimentary. An easy feeling to master, but not to analyze.

  4. You have a nice and symbolic concept of love. Yes, to love is to be close and to be united with the one you care. It is feeling the warmth and security of his/her embrace. It is trusting that he/she will never let you go and will be with you through thick and thin for the rest of your life.
[Editor’s Note: I regard this comment as blog-spam — in its original form, it contained a link to an online dating site. I have removed the link, and I should probably have removed the whole thing, but I let it stay, as a testimonial to a slightly more sophisticated kind of blogspam than the standard online casino stuff, and because I like hearing that I have a nice and symbolic concept of love. 5. You don’t know what love is…not until you break your neck at 39…and touch, movement, arousal, sensation become vague memories. No mammoth fur or blankets touch your skin, only your cheeks, forehead, your ear can feel a gentle caress but who is there to caress you? Ask my wife, she’s been paralyzed for 7 years, ask me, ask our children, don’t fool yourself, Love is a Dog From Hell…Bukowski writes the best love poems, Dylan sings the best love songs:

    Spring Swan

swans die in the Spring too, and there it floated, dead on a Sunday, sideways, circling in current, and I walked to the rotunda, and overheard, gods in chariots, dogs, women, and death ran down my throat like a mouse, and I heard the people coming, with their picninc bags, and laughter, and I felt guilty for the swan, as if death were a thing of shame, and like a fool, I walked away, and left them, my beautiful swan. (C. Bukowski)

  6. “Love” is a flower that never dies

“love” is a flower whose thorns you cant see, until you touch it.

Like Bob said, “every word has its big letter and its little letter”

  7. love is touch? no. love is selflessness. Confusion arises because touching someone else can be something of a “selfless” experience. But it’s physical. And if the touch is more about the provocative desire to possess someone, then I don’t think that has anything to do with love, unless your idea of love is more of an eros, erotic love.

  8. TRUE LOVE

    Wislawa Szymborska

    True love. Is it normal,
is it serious, is it practical?
What does the world get from two people
who exist in a world of their own?

Placed on the same pedestal for no good reason,
drawn randomly from millions, but convinced
it had to happen this way–in reward for what? For nothing.
    The light descends from nowhere.
Why on these two and not others?
Doesn’t this outrage justice? Yes it does.
Doesn’t it disrupt our painstakingly erected principles,
and cast the moral from the peak? Yes on both accounts.

    Look at the happy couple.
Couldn’t they at least try to hide it,
fake a little depression for their friends’ sake!
Listen to them laughing–it’s an insult.
    The language they use–deceptively clear.
    And their little celebrations, rituals,
    the elaborate mutual routines–
it’s obviously a plot behind the human race’s back!

It’s hard even to guess how far things might go
if people start to follow their example.
What could religion and poetry count on?
What would be remembered? what renounced?
Who’d want to stay within bounds?

True love. Is it really necessary?
Tact and common sense tell us to pass over it in silence,
like a scandal in Life’s highest circles.
Perfectly good children are born without its help.
It couldn’t populate the planet in a million years,
    it comes along so rarely.

Let the people who never find true love
keep saying that there’s no such thing.

Their faith will make it easier for them to live and die.

  9. To love it’s the quest or search or care (i’m spanish, excuse my language) of make florish the thing, art, person or whatever you love

That’s love for me my friends

  10. im new here, so i apologise for going off at a tangent. Everything in my life relates to Jesus, because we are good pals, basically. Some people see religion as a chore, and more people move with the fashions…like its a jumper, ‘oh religion isnt in anymore, lets kick that.’ But if u enter into a relationship with the one who loves u more than anyone else u can think of, u will find true happiness. You might have to do some things that u might not like, for example, no sex before marriage. But it is those people who dont follow Christ, who are unhappy, because they dont wait for that right person in marriage. Jesus wants us to do these things because they are good. Anyways, thats love. lol. Plus, Hes saved my life before, and Hes changed me into a person i never thought i could have become. People often refrain from loving God as they think he doesnt make things all perfect and happy in the world, but all things happen for a reason. God did not create a perfect world, but He created a world were we as people would grow towards perfection (Heaven.) We all learn from the mistakes and the hard times and the bad times. Faith is a choice, u cant just say ‘its not my fault for not having it.’ Anyways, thats my tip for today. lol.

  11. The love I know is not easy to define; it makes me both happy and sad at times. My love for my partner is different to the love I feel for my family, and it’s also different to the love I’ve felt for a partner in the past…. I partly subscribe to the belief that love is just a construct of the collective mind that gives us the best chance of creating a stable environment in which to raise a family…. but can that explanation be the end of it? I think there’s something more profound going on at some level or other.
